Staff Mechanical Engineer Job

Armstrong Flooring Products (AFP), a division of Armstrong World Industries, Inc. has a job opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer reporting directly to the Engineering and CAPEX Manager. The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for meeting KPI goals, and all aspects of engineering projects, including safety, schedule, cost and performance. The Mechanical Engineer works closely with our Lean Center of Excellence to implement improvement initiatives across the hardwood flooring plants.
Key Responsibilities of the Mechanical Engineer:
Actively participate as a member of a multifunctional project team executing a variety of capital projects from concept to asset installation and start-up
Work with suppliers to identify, specify and evaluate effectiveness of engineering solutions
Design, develop and test the manufacture and installation of Mechanical equipment, components and systems
Prepare and analyze technical drawings and specifications to ensure installations and operations conform to customer requirements
Coordinate manufacturing, installation, maintenance and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes and customer requirements
Inspect completed installations and observe on-going operations for conformance to specifications, as well as operational safety and quality standards
Plan, develop and maintain overall project schedule and cost
Estimate cost of labor, materials, equipment and construction
Identify, evaluate and recommend new technologies for wood processing
Work with plants to troubleshoot any processing issues that may arise during normal day to day operations; Incorporate learning into all appropriate standards and procedures
Actively participate in incident investigations and risk assessments
Mentor and develop junior mechanical engineers and maintenance personnel on technical and engineering best practices and precision maintenance
Ensure compliance with all standards and customer requirements, including OSHA Guidelines.
This position requires up to 50% travel
Required Qualifications of the Mechanical Engineer:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical engineering
Minimum of 7+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
Proven record in managing capital projects with emphasis on SQDC
Personal experience in leading Kaizen Events
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, solid project management and presentation skills
Proficiency in CAD, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Desired Qualifications of the Mechanical Engineer:
Experience in flooring, paper, plastics, or similar manufacturing industry
Lean experience and certification

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
