Public Works Join our team as a Summer Part-Time Public Works Laborer, where you'll assist in maintaining Manheim Township facilities to ensure community safety and enjoyment.
Operate light equipment, conduct maintenance projects, and perform routine tasks to enhance public spaces.
Safety training provided.
Essential Functions:
Operate light equipment, including push mowers and related landscape equipment, for various maintenance tasks such as mowing operations, ball field maintenance, playground upkeep, pavilion maintenance, landscape care, pool maintenance, and material spreading.
Conduct maintenance projects on parks and other public areas according to department priorities, weather emergencies, and demands.
Tasks may include tree and landscape maintenance, athletic field and court upkeep, and general facility maintenance.
Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks on township vehicles, equipment, and facilities.
Physical fitness, including the ability to lift moderate weights (up to 50 lbs.
), stand and walk for extended periods, bend and reach frequently, and push or pull.
Demonstration of a polite demeanor towards colleagues and Township customers.
Related Functions:
Attending safety training seminars and on-the-job training to enhance skills and knowledge.
Required Knowledge:
Familiarity with or ability to learn light equipment operating procedures.
Understanding of or ability to learn general maintenance procedures for light equipment.
Knowledge of or the ability to learn landscape and park maintenance practices.
Awareness of safety practices and procedures for equipment and tools.
Familiarity with or ability to learn department policies and work rules.
Skills:
Proficiency in operating light equipment with minimal supervision.
Competence in using power tools such as mowers, edgers, hedge & string trimmers.
Proficiency in using manual tools like hand saws, picks, hammers, shovels, rakes, and brooms.
Ability to work independently while remaining flexible to meet department objectives.
Adherence to safety standards and recognition of safety warnings and hazards.
Capability to read written instructions and perform basic mathematical calculations.
Working Conditions:
Work is often conducted around hazardous machinery and may involve personal safety risks if safety standards are not followed.
